Since Hong Kong came under British colonial rule, we’ve followed the British-style education system for generations.
Now that we’re in Canada — is Canada also using the British system?
Some people might say, “Of course! Canada is a Commonwealth country!”
Others might say, “My friends who moved to the U.K. are also doing the same — buying houses in prestigious school districts just to get into good schools!”
In Hong Kong, many parents have mastered the “game” of getting their kids into elite schools — though it often leaves both parents and children exhausted.
But is this really the best for our children?
What about the education system in Canada — especially in high school?
Do all provinces have the same education structure, credits, and curriculum?
And how does university admission work here?
This time, we’ve invited students from the University of Calgary, who are all Hong Kong immigrants. They’ve gone through high school in Calgary — meeting with counsellors, selecting courses, taking public exams, applying to universities, and adapting to campus life.
They’ll share their firsthand experiences of studying in Alberta — from high school to university — to help parents better plan their children’s future education path.
